Swan Coach House Summer Invitational

Image

In 1965 a group of women founded the Forward Arts Foundation of Atlanta and converted the carriage house of The gorgeous Swan House Estate into an art gallery and restaurant. We are happy to announce that a few of our potters at Cabbagetown Clay and Glassworks have been handpicked to participate in their Summer Swan Invitational. The Summer Swan Invitational runs from July 6th to August 10th; Tue – Sat 10-4pm. This show features contemporary Southern Pottery and Handmade Objects, in addition our pottery from Cabbagetown Clay and Glassworks! Come out to the Swan House and be smothered in southern charm, have lunch and enjoy the show.

Gnomes in the Hood

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Tucked into a corner of the garden amid the tulips, the brightly-colored gnomes guard the pink and white azaleas and blue “glory of the snow” in the neighborhood garden– but I get ahead of myself.

On Saturday, May 11, from 4:00 – 7:30 pm, the Cabbagetown Clay and Glass Works (CCGW) and Garden*Hood, are making it easy to own your own Gnomes in the Hood.  Enjoy the sights and scents of spring plants, sip a cocktail, and view garden gnomes of all varieties.  The event will feature one-of-a-kind gnomes (or “gnomesses”) created by 25 local artists (painters, sculptors) who have joined forces with CCGW’s artists.  The unique gnomes will be auctioned off by silent auction with light hors d’oeuvres and cocktails in the luscious flowering space of Garden*Hood, a neighboring plant and garden center.  Gnomes in the Hood will benefit CCGW, https://ccgworks.wordpress.com/ a non-profit, cooperative, artist-run studio, and to support their community outreach.   CCGW members will be presenting free workshops to local transitional housing programs for women and for veterans.

The Gnomes in the Hood fundraiser coincides with Garden*Hood’s Mother’s Day Bouquet Buffet, a yearly tradition where individuals can create the perfect container garden for mom. Staff of the independent retail garden center set up a “buffet” of the supplies you’ll need as well as a nursery full of plants and pottery from which to choose.  Kids of all ages are welcome.  The Bouquet Buffet is open 10am – 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12.

It is easy to attend both events, as well as to shop in the Cabbagetown Clay and Glass Works’ studio, since they are located across the street from each other on the corner of Boulevard and Woodward Avenues, between I-20 and Memorial Drive.  CCGW is at 588 Woodward Avenue, 30312 and Garden*Hood is at 353 Boulevard SE, 30312.
